Fresh from winning the Convenience Retail Awards for the second year running, Guy Warner is clearly aiming for the hat trick, with his newly refitted Bidford on Avon store. A retailer to be reckoned with, Guy Warner recognises that having that extra edge is paramount to maintaining a successful business and his obvious drive and ambition is evident in the innovative fresh new Budgens store. His success is not by chance, Guy is most particular about the way his stores are designed, equipped and fitted. Therefore, detailed attention is paid to lighting. He sought out BÄ.RO, renowned “Retail Lighting Specialists”, to create and implement a perfect lighting design solution for his 6,500 sq.ft. store. Budgens have recently finished a complete overhaul of their store format, covering product, service, environment and in-store communication. The new concept created a series of distinct product zones, including a wine cellar, bakery and delicatessen. The brief was to define these product zones by providing a high quality sensory experience, with a modern fresh feel while protecting the produce on display. The solution was also to be cost efficient and energy saving in order to benefit from a Carbon Trust interest free loan. Upon entering the store the customer experience begins immediately in the lead aisle which has a food hall affect with its high ceiling and suspended feature pendants which produce a “cosy-warm” light effect to highlight the locally supplied fresh produce and bakery. From here the customer enters the main body of the store where BÄ.RO has placed its linear high efficiency T5 fluorescent with “cold-light” effect to reinforce value for money ambient offerings. BÄ.RO also provided a “punch light” effect to the gondola ends to promote impulse purchasing. Finally, before arriving at the checkout zone the customer’s senses are once again triggered by the sharp “warm-sparkle” light effect of the wine department`s accent lighting. Guy is already reaping the benefits of the new lighting design - “The overall scheme is fantastic, the look, feel & ambience have all been achieved to our standards and are on a par with what we set out to achieve”. Having looked at various lighting solutions, Guy added that “BÄ.RO’s cost pro-rata to other manufacturer’s is extremely competitive and the quality of a very high standard ”. In today’s struggling economy more and more retailers are looking to find ways to reduce running costs without compromising on the customer’s purchasing experience in the store, Guy commented “I have already noticed that my energy bill has dropped dramatically and in line with the Carbon Trust Loan approval guidelines”. BÄ.RO Lighting creates the right mood, highlight’s displays attractively and produces a positive environment that increases customer spend.
