The first new-style Southern Co-operative store in Bognor Regis is a superb showcase for the energy efficiency and design of BÄ.RO Lighting, which has been completed by the expert BÄ.RO team in association with CDW & Partners who delivered the scheme as part of their overall conceptual approach for their future store formats.

The project to fit out Southern Co-op’s innovative store format was secured as a result of interest in BÄ.RO Lighting’s dynamic presence at the recent EuroShop in Dusseldorf. Although other companies were involved in the selection mix, it was BÄ.RO’s reputation as the market leader in retail food lighting that placed it ahead of the rest and secured the contract. The success of this prestigious project offers potential involvement in similar retail lighting re-fit plans in the remainder of Southern Co-op Stores.

BÄ.RO Lighting’s top of the range products for the Bognor Regis installation were chosen because their ability to illuminate specific areas is superior, which means that fewer fittings and fixtures were required. Cost and energy savings were achieved by using a combination of Libra Batwing, Carina, Pegasus, Omega and Europa fixtures, lamps and accessories. The shop fitting and installation was undertaken by Total Design Shopfitters.

Commenting on the Co-op re-fit, BÄ.RO’s Business Development Director, Ron Coleman said, “Designing a lighting solution to the highest standard whilst bearing in mind energy consumption was the initial brief and the Libra Batwing 70 watt fixture is especially effective in these circumstances. 

“This fixture uses BÄ.RO’s unique, patented reflector technology that illuminates both sides of an aisle simultaneously from a central point, providing superior light levels focused on all products from the top shelf to the bottom. We used Omega recessed wide beam wallwashers on other feature rafts, recessed Pegasus wallwashers at the rear of the service counter while Carinas illuminated the off-license, fresh produce and bakery areas to perfection.” 

Southern Co-op’s energy saving retail lighting solution is being used to best advantage to meet the high standard of ambience required for a modern 21st Century store displaying top of the range products.
