Family owned and managed for three generations since the 1880s, Anderson’s Spar has grown from its original 500 sq. ft. store to its current size of over 3,500 sq. ft. To coincide with its most recent extension.

Harry Anderson decided to install a completely new lighting design to compliment the store’s new size, image and its historically sensitive location. Anderson’s Spar is situated in the picturesque village of Portaferry which is a conservation area at the
mouth of Strangford Lough.

In keeping with its traditional past and to compliment its naturally beautiful
surrounds, the store was sympathetically renovated and the lighting solution was considered accordingly, with BÄ.RO providing the correct retail lighting to create an ambience to enhance the shopping experience of customers.

The store re-fit came with its challenges, one of which was the low ceiling throughout. However, by using a combination of recessed Carina, Omega and 70 watt Libra fixtures, this was overcome. Along the aisles, both sides of display shelving were evenly highlighted simultaneously from one central fixture, resulting in energy and installation savings, in keeping with the Client’s brief.

The Anderson family has two stores and has expressed their delight with the latest refurbishment. BÄ.RO Lighting’s Roy McWhinney comments, “This was a super project from start to finish with every aspect of the installation from order to completion running very smoothly.

The store has a fantastic ambience in a wonderful location, which makes for an ideal shopping experience.”
