As more and more garden centres seek to enhance their customers' purchasing experience, BA.RO Lighting, shines a new light on the retail environment.

Mood lighting has long been an essential sales tool in tile retail industry. Shoppers take just a fraction of a second to inspect items and make their purchasing decision. The right lighting can increase retail sales by around 10%, while at tile same time reduces energy costs by 30%. Increasingly garden centres are transforming their retail environments by adopting techniques applied in similar retail sectors such as home furnishings and using mood lighting to heighten tile retail experience of their customers.

One company garden centres have been turning to is global retail lighting giant BARO Lighting. BARO has supplied lighting solutions to North One Garden Centre in London, Alton Garden Centre in Essex and most recently to Barton Grange Garden Centre in Preston. 

"Lighting is a vital design element in any retail environment, whether it's a supermarket, a home furnishings store or a garden centre," explains Terry Byrne, commercial Director for BA.RO Lighting, "it plays an integral part in sales promotion and generating a higher turnover.'

As the leader in the field of fresh food lighting, BA.RO supplied The Farm Shop at
Barton Grange, the garden centre's new multi-million pound food Hall, which was
opened by HRH The Princess Royal in June this year. This project enabled BA.RO to apply its expertise in both food and retail lighting to provide a solution that prolongs the shelf life of goods whilst making them more appealing to customers.

Terry Byrne outlines tile project: "Using the latest technology and design BA.RO products provide the perfect solution for garden centres and similar retail outlets that have multiple products and various display units. At The Farm Shop we supplied a combination of fixtures, lamps and accessories used in conjunction with our famous reflector technology to illuminate the goods to look their absolute best, whilst prolonging their shelf life."

With energy bills set to soar, businesses are keen to keep electricity costs down and the innovative reflector technology BA.RO has pioneered, has proven to be cost effective, as Terry explains: "Our 'Batwing Technology allows the light to be evenly distributed on both sides using a central aisle luminaire with reflector technology. As this requires fewer fixtures, retailers can look forward to lower electricity bills and fewer replacement lamps.'

In addition to this, retailers can adjust their lighting installation gradually over time, area by area or seasonally to achieve great results without the need to totally rework the overall lighting installation.

"By creating this mood lighting effect,' says Terry, 'we can provide a host of options with different lighting themes for different retail areas, from meats to preserves or from indoor house plants to garden furniture. Lighting can also be used to highlight seasonal promotions either at Easter, summer or Christmas.'
