Superquinn Sundrive
Refurbishing a store without interrupting the daily business of retailing isn’t easy but this was the challenge faced by Superquinn and its suppliers when they revamped their Sundrive Road store in Dublin.

Superquinn was founded when the Quinn family opened its first shop in 1960. In 2005, the business was sold to Irish consortium, Select Retail Holdings, which has invested in an extensive refurbishment and expansion programme. Leading the way in design innovation, new and re-fitted stores feature the latest in retail technology and not surprisingly, Superquinn won the 2007 Retail Week Store Design of the Year Award.

Paul Bealin of BÄ.RO stated, “Although the majority of the store is 6 metres high, certain areas had low level 2.8m ceilings, so this particular store meant that we had to widely use our range of recessed Carina and Libra down lights, its track mounted Bondo and Econdo surface fixtures, all complimented by the suspended Canopus Batwing pendant to provide the ideal store lighting solution. Both food and non-food light technology was greatly used throughout the store.”

Superquinn has a long track record of innovation in supermarket retailing, specifically in the provision of superior fresh food products. The company continues to win awards across the food world for its products, including fresh coffee, cheeses, wines and its fish range. BÄ.RO is looking forward to a continued, successful lighting partnership.
